Prague Philharmonia is a classical music ensemble based in Prague, Czech Republic. The orchestra was founded in 1994 by Jiri Belohlavek, a renowned Czech conductor, and has since become one of the most prominent orchestras in the country. The ensemble consists of approximately 60 musicians, including some of the most talented instrumentalists in the Czech Republic. The orchestra's repertoire includes a wide range of classical music, from Baroque to contemporary, and it has collaborated with many renowned soloists and conductors. One of the highlights of Prague Philharmonia's history was its performance at the opening ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. The orchestra played a selection of Czech and international music, including works by Bedrich Smetana, Antonin Dvorak, and Giuseppe Verdi. The performance was widely praised for its energy and precision, and it helped to raise the orchestra's profile on the international stage. Another notable performance by Prague Philharmonia was its collaboration with the legendary pianist Martha Argerich in 2010. The performance was a great success, and it showcased the orchestra's ability to work with some of the world's most talented musicians. Over the years, Prague Philharmonia has received many awards and accolades for its performances and recordings. In 2005, the orchestra won the prestigious Gramophone Award for its recording of Dvorak's Symphony No. 9, "From the New World." In addition to its performances and recordings, Prague Philharmonia is also committed to promoting classical music education and outreach. The orchestra regularly collaborates with schools and community organizations to provide music education and performance opportunities for young people.
