Born in South Korea in 1985, Kim showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. His parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue his passion for music. Kim's early years were spent studying music in South Korea, where he received his first formal training in piano performance. He quickly distinguished himself as a talented musician, winning several local competitions and earning recognition for his exceptional skills. In 2003, Kim moved to the United States to continue his music education. He enrolled at the Juilliard School in New York City, one of the most prestigious music schools in the world. There, he studied under the guidance of renowned pianist Emanuel Ax, who recognized Kim's talent and helped him develop his skills even further. During his time at Juilliard, Kim participated in numerous competitions and performances, earning critical acclaim for his performances. In 2007, he won the Juilliard Concerto Competition, which gave him the opportunity to perform with the Juilliard Orchestra at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. Kim's success at Juilliard led to numerous other opportunities, including performances with some of the world's most renowned orchestras. He has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra, among others. In addition to his performances with orchestras, Kim has also established himself as a solo artist, performing recitals around the world. He was also named a Gilmore Young Artist in 2012, which is awarded to pianists who demonstrate exceptional talent and potential.
