Roberto Sensi was born on May 12, 1985, in Rome, Italy. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. Sensi showed an interest in music from a young age and began playing the piano at the age of four. He later started playing the violin and the cello, and by the age of 10, he had already performed in several concerts. Sensi's talent was recognized early on, and he was accepted into the prestigious Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome at the age of 14. He studied under the guidance of renowned cellist Mario Brunello and graduated with honors at the age of 18. Sensi then went on to pursue further studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in Germany, where he studied under the tutelage of cellist Frans Helmerson. Sensi's career as a professional cellist began in 2005 when he won the first prize at the International Cello Competition Antonio Janigro in Croatia. This win opened up many opportunities for him, and he began performing in concerts and festivals across Europe. In 2006, he was invited to perform at the prestigious Salzburg Festival, where he received critical acclaim for his performance of Dvořák's Cello Concerto. Over the years, Sensi has performed with many renowned orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with many famous conductors, such as Daniel Barenboim, Zubin Mehta, and Riccardo Muti. One of Sensi's most memorable performances was at the 2010 Nobel Prize Concert in Stockholm, where he performed Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. The concert was attended by the Nobel laureates and members of the Swedish royal family, and Sensi's performance was widely praised. Sensi has also been recognized for his recordings, with his album of Bach's Cello Suites receiving critical acclaim. The album was released in 2012 and was praised for its technical brilliance and emotional depth. In addition to his performances, Sensi is also a dedicated teacher and has taught at several music schools and conservatories across Europe. He is known for his patient and nurturing approach to teaching, and many of his students have gone on to have successful careers in music. Sensi has received many awards and honors throughout his career, including the Premio Abbiati, which is the highest honor for classical music in Italy. He was also awarded the prestigious Echo Klassik award in 2014 for his recording of the Brahms Double Concerto with violinist Lisa Batiashvili. Despite his success, Sensi remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and teach, and his passion for music is evident in everything he does.
