He was the youngest of three children born to a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Kurt showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Kurt's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his mother and later studied with renowned pianists such as Alfred Brendel and Paul Badura-Skoda. Kurt's talent and dedication to music were evident from an early age, and he quickly became known for his exceptional skills as a pianist. In 1940, Kurt's family fled Austria to escape the Nazi regime and settled in the United States. Kurt continued his music studies in the US and eventually earned a degree in music from the Juilliard School in New York City. He also studied with the legendary pianist Artur Schnabel, who had a profound influence on Kurt's musical style. Kurt's career as a pianist took off in the 1950s, and he quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented pianists of his generation. Some of his most notable performances include his debut with the New York Philharmonic in 1953 and his performance at the Salzburg Festival in 1956.
