Charles Abramovic is a renowned classical pianist who has made a name for himself in the world of music. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on August 5, 1951, Abramovic grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Abramovic showed a keen interest in music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. Abramovic began his formal music education at the age of six when he started taking piano lessons. He showed remarkable talent and dedication, and by the time he was a teenager, he had already won several local and regional competitions. In 1969, he graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, where he had studied with the renowned pianist Susan Starr. After high school, Abramovic went on to study at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he received his Bachelor of Music degree in 1973. He continued his studies at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he earned his Master of Music degree in 1975. After completing his studies, Abramovic embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist. He has performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe, and has collaborated with many of the world's leading orchestras and conductors. Some of his most notable performances include his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1975, his performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the New York Philharmonic in 1980, and his performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in 1990. In addition to his work as a soloist, Abramovic is also an accomplished chamber musician. He has performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Guarneri Quartet, the Tokyo Quartet, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. He has also collaborated with many distinguished musicians, including violinist Hilary Hahn, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and soprano Dawn Upshaw. Throughout his career, Abramovic has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the world of music. In 1983, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given annually to outstanding young musicians. In 1999, he was awarded the Philadelphia Music Alliance's Jazz and Heritage Award, which recognizes musicians who have made significant contributions to the Philadelphia music scene. In 2011, he was awarded the Pennsylvania Governor's Award for the Arts, which recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the arts in Pennsylvania. In addition to his work as a performer, Abramovic is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at several prestigious institutions, including the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, the University of Hartford, and the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently a professor of piano at Temple University in Philadelphia, where he has been on the faculty since 1988.
