Oxana Shevchenko is a Ukrainian-born classical pianist who has gained international recognition for her virtuosic performances and musical interpretations. She was born on August 16, 1986, in Kharkiv, Ukraine, and began playing the piano at the age of five. She showed exceptional talent from an early age and was accepted into the Kharkiv Special Music School for Gifted Children, where she studied under the guidance of Natalia Tolpygo. Shevchenko's musical education continued at the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine, where she studied with Borys Fedorov. She graduated with honors in 2008 and went on to pursue a Master's degree at the Royal College of Music in London, where she studied with Norma Fisher. Shevchenko also received guidance from renowned pianists such as András Schiff, Menahem Pressler, and Richard Goode. Shevchenko's career as a concert pianist began to take off in 2010 when she won the Scottish International Piano Competition. This victory led to numerous concert engagements in the UK and abroad, including performances at the Wigmore Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, and the Edinburgh International Festival. Shevchenko's performances were praised for their technical brilliance and emotional depth, and she quickly gained a reputation as one of the most exciting young pianists of her generation. In 2013, Shevchenko was awarded the prestigious Gold Medal at the Royal Over-Seas League Music Competition, which further cemented her status as a rising star in the classical music world. One of the highlights of Shevchenko's career was her performance at the 2016 BBC Proms, where she played Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. The performance was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and was widely praised for its technical brilliance and emotional intensity. Shevchenko's interpretation of the concerto was described as "spellbinding" and "mesmerizing," and it cemented her reputation as one of the most exciting pianists of her generation.
