The members of the group are all accomplished musicians in their own right, and they came together to form the ensemble with the goal of exploring the rich tradition of chamber music. The group's founding members were Diethelm Jonas (violin), Wolfgang Klos (viola), and Rudolf Leopold (cello) from Vienna, and Karl-Heinz Steffens (clarinet), Walter Seyfarth (clarinet), and Henning Trog (bassoon) from Berlin. The group's name reflects the fact that it is made up of musicians from two of Europe's most important musical cities.
