Period:ClassicalModernGenre:ChamberMarianne Thorsen is a Norwegian violinist who has established herself as one of the most prominent classical musicians of her generation. Born in Oslo in 1972, Thorsen began playing the violin at the age of four and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She studied at the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo and later at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Thorsen's career as a professional musician began in the early 1990s, when she won several prestigious awards and competitions, including the Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition in Denmark and the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition in England. These early successes helped to establish her reputation as a rising star in the classical music world. Throughout her career, Thorsen has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras and conductors, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. She has also collaborated with many renowned soloists, such as pianist Leif Ove Andsnes and cellist Truls Mørk. One of the highlights of Thorsen's career was her performance of Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5 with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall in London in 2004. The concert was widely praised by critics, who noted Thorsen's "exquisite tone" and "impeccable technique." She has also received critical acclaim for her performances of works by composers such as Beethoven, Brahms, and Sibelius. In addition to her work as a soloist, Thorsen is also a dedicated chamber musician. She has been a member of several acclaimed ensembles, including the Nash Ensemble and the Vertavo String Quartet. With the latter group, she recorded a highly acclaimed album of works by the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. Thorsen is also a committed teacher and mentor to young musicians. She has taught at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, and has given masterclasses around the world. She is known for her warm and supportive teaching style, and for her ability to inspire and encourage her students. Throughout her career, Thorsen has received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to classical music. In 2006, she was awarded the Grieg Prize, one of Norway's highest cultural honors, for her work in promoting Norwegian music. She has also been awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society's Instrumentalist Award and the Norwegian Music Critics' Award. Despite her many achievements, Thorsen remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to perform and record regularly, and is committed to sharing her love of classical music with audiences around the world.More....
