Born in Maryland, USA, in 1968, Willis grew up in Tokyo, Japan, where her father was a diplomat. She began playing the horn at the age of 14 and went on to study at the Royal College of Music in London, where she graduated with honors. After completing her studies, Willis joined the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in 1991, becoming the first female brass player to be appointed to the orchestra. She remained with the orchestra for over 20 years, during which time she performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors and musicians of our time. In addition to her work with the Berlin Philharmonic, Willis has also performed as a soloist with numerous other orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. She has also recorded several albums, including "Mozart's Horn Concertos" and "Four Horns and Harp." In addition to her work as a performer, Willis is also a passionate educator and presenter. She has presented several television programs, including "Sarah's Music," which explores the world of classical music and features interviews with musicians and conductors. She is also a regular contributor to the BBC's "Proms" broadcasts and has written several books on music education. Throughout her career, Willis has received numerous awards and accolades for her contributions to the world of classical music. In 2008, she was awarded the Order of Merit of Berlin, one of the city's highest honors, for her work as a musician and cultural ambassador. She has also been awarded the Bundesverdienstkreuz, the highest civilian honor in Germany, and the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary.
