Daniel Stepner is a renowned classical music artist who has made significant contributions to the world of music as a violinist, conductor, and teacher. Born in 1946 in New York City, Stepner grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to classical music from a young age. His father was a violinist and his mother was a pianist, and they both encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Stepner began his musical training at the age of six, studying the violin with his father. He later went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he received his Bachelor of Music degree. He continued his studies at the Yale School of Music, where he earned his Master of Music degree. After completing his studies, Stepner began his career as a professional musician. He quickly gained recognition for his exceptional talent and was invited to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his work as a soloist, Stepner has also been an active chamber musician. He has performed with some of the most renowned chamber ensembles in the world, including the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Smithsonian Chamber Players, and the Handel and Haydn Society. One of the highlights of Stepner's career was his appointment as the concertmaster of the Handel and Haydn Society in 1975. He held this position for over 25 years and was instrumental in the society's revival as a leading period-instrument ensemble. During his tenure, he also served as the conductor of the society's youth orchestra and was a frequent guest conductor of the main orchestra. Stepner has also been a dedicated teacher throughout his career. He has taught at several prestigious institutions, including the New England Conservatory of Music, the Longy School of Music, and the Boston University School of Music. He has also been a guest lecturer and masterclass teacher at numerous universities and music schools around the world. In addition to his work as a performer and teacher, Stepner has also been an advocate for the preservation and performance of early music. He has been a member of several early music ensembles, including the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra and the Aston Magna Festival Orchestra. He has also been a frequent performer and conductor at the Boston Early Music Festival, one of the world's leading festivals of early music. Throughout his career, Stepner has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the world of music. In 1995, he was awarded the Erwin Bodky Award for Excellence in Early Music by the Cambridge Society for Early Music. In 2001, he was awarded the prestigious Louis Sudler Prize in the Arts by Harvard University. In 2016, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Boston Musicians' Association. Today, Stepner continues to perform, teach, and advocate for the preservation and performance of early music. He is widely regarded as one of the leading figures in the world of classical music and has inspired countless musicians and music lovers around the world.
