Artist Info
Adam Cicchillitti is a Canadian classical guitarist who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and innovative programming. Born in Ottawa, Canada in 1985, Cicchillitti began playing guitar at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied with renowned guitarists such as Patrick Roux and Jerome Ducharme, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Ottawa and a Master of Music degree from the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal. Cicchillitti's career as a professional musician began in earnest in 2007, when he won first prize at the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America International Competition. This victory launched him onto the international stage, and he has since performed in major concert halls and festivals throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. He has been praised for his technical mastery, musical sensitivity, and ability to connect with audiences of all ages and backgrounds. One of Cicchillitti's signature strengths is his ability to program concerts that showcase the diversity and richness of the classical guitar repertoire. He is equally at home performing works by the great masters of the past, such as Bach, Scarlatti, and Sor, as he is playing contemporary pieces by living composers. He has premiered numerous works by Canadian and international composers, and has collaborated with ensembles such as the Molinari Quartet and the Canadian Guitar Quartet. Cicchillitti has also been recognized for his recordings, which have received critical acclaim and earned him several awards. His debut album, Canciones, was released in 2014 and features a collection of Spanish and Latin American songs arranged for guitar and voice. The album was praised for its "exquisite playing" and "sensitive interpretations" (Classical Guitar Magazine), and won the 2015 Prix Opus for Best Album of the Year in the World Music category. His second album, Telemann Fantasias, was released in 2018 and features solo works by the Baroque composer Georg Philipp Telemann. The album was hailed as a "tour de force" (The WholeNote) and won the 2019 Prix Opus for Best Album of the Year in the Early Music category. In addition to his performing and recording career, Cicchillitti is also an active educator and advocate for the classical guitar. He has taught at several universities and conservatories in Canada and the United States, and has given masterclasses and workshops around the world. He is a founding member of the Ottawa Guitar Society and the Canadian Guitar Quartet, and has served on the board of directors for the Guitar Foundation of America. Looking to the future, Cicchillitti shows no signs of slowing down. He continues to perform and record at a prolific pace, and is always seeking out new challenges and opportunities to push the boundaries of the classical guitar. With his technical prowess, musical sensitivity, and innovative programming, he has established himself as one of the leading guitarists of his generation and a true ambassador for the classical guitar.More....
