Fresk Quartet is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2008 in Norway. The quartet consists of four members: violinists Ragnhild Hemsing and Yngvild Vaervågen, violist Ingrid Andsnes, and cellist Christine Røsnes. The ensemble has gained recognition for their unique sound and interpretation of classical music. The founding members of Fresk Quartet met while studying at the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, Norway. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and decided to form a quartet. The name "Fresk" was chosen as a nod to the quartet's fresh and vibrant approach to classical music. Since their formation, Fresk Quartet has performed extensively throughout Norway and internationally. They have been praised for their technical skill and emotional depth in their performances. The quartet has also collaborated with a number of renowned musicians, including pianist Leif Ove Andsnes and cellist Truls Mørk. One of the highlights of Fresk Quartet's career was their performance at the 2010 Bergen International Festival. They were chosen to perform as part of the festival's "Rising Stars" program, which showcases young and talented musicians from around the world. The quartet's performance was met with critical acclaim, and they were praised for their "exquisite musicianship" and "passionate playing." In addition to their live performances, Fresk Quartet has also released several recordings. Their debut album, "Fresk," was released in 2012 and features works by Haydn, Shostakovich, and Grieg. The album was well-received by critics and helped to establish the quartet as a rising force in the classical music world. Fresk Quartet has also been the recipient of several awards and honors. In 2011, they were awarded the prestigious Statoil Talent Award, which recognizes young and promising musicians in Norway. The quartet was also awarded the Norwegian Grammy Award (Spellemannprisen) in 2013 for their album "Grieg: String Quartets." Despite their success, Fresk Quartet remains committed to exploring new and innovative ways to approach classical music. They have collaborated with artists from a variety of genres, including jazz and folk music, and have even incorporated electronic elements into their performances. The quartet's willingness to experiment and push boundaries has helped to make them one of the most exciting and dynamic classical music ensembles of their generation.
