In 1952, Hallgren enrolled at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and composer, Gunnar de Frumerie. During his time at the college, Hallgren honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of music theory and composition. After completing his studies, Hallgren embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist. He performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States, earning critical acclaim for his virtuosity and musicality. He was particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Chopin, Beethoven, and Mozart. One of Hallgren's most significant performances was at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1965. He played Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, also known as the Emperor Concerto, with the London Symphony Orchestra. The performance was a resounding success, and Hallgren received a standing ovation from the audience. Hallgren also performed at several prestigious music festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Tanglewood Music Festival.
