Artist Info
Richard Gowers is a British classical pianist who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and innovative programming. Born in 1991 in London, Gowers began playing the piano at the age of four and showed exceptional talent from an early age. He studied at the Purcell School of Music and later at the Royal Academy of Music, where he was awarded the prestigious Queen’s Commendation for Excellence. Gowers’ career as a concert pianist began to take off in his early twenties, when he won several major competitions, including the Royal Over-Seas League Piano Competition and the Brant International Piano Competition. These victories led to invitations to perform at some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls, including the Wigmore Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, and the Berlin Philharmonie. One of Gowers’ most notable performances was his debut at the BBC Proms in 2016, where he performed Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. The performance was widely praised for its technical brilliance and emotional depth, and cemented Gowers’ reputation as one of the most exciting young pianists of his generation. In addition to his solo performances, Gowers is also an avid chamber musician and collaborates regularly with other musicians and ensembles. He has performed with the Carducci Quartet, the Heath Quartet, and the Doric String Quartet, among others, and has been praised for his sensitive and nuanced approach to ensemble playing. Gowers’ repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works by composers from Bach to Ligeti. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the music of Franz Liszt, and has been praised for his ability to bring out the drama and intensity of Liszt’s music while maintaining a sense of clarity and control. In addition to his performing career, Gowers is also a passionate advocate for music education and outreach. He has worked with several organizations to bring classical music to underserved communities and has given masterclasses and workshops to young musicians around the world. Gowers’ recordings have received critical acclaim and have been featured on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM. His debut album, featuring works by Liszt and Schumann, was released in 2018 to widespread praise. Despite his young age, Gowers has already established himself as one of the most exciting and innovative pianists of his generation. His technical brilliance, musical sensitivity, and commitment to outreach and education make him a true ambassador for classical music.More....
