Paniagua's siblings, Luis and Carlos, are also musicians. Paniagua began his musical training at a young age, studying the guitar and the recorder. He later studied musicology at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he earned a degree in 1976. During his studies, Paniagua became interested in medieval music and began researching and performing music from this period. In 1978, Paniagua founded the group Atrium Musicae de Madrid, which specialized in performing medieval and Renaissance music. The group quickly gained recognition for their unique sound and innovative approach to early music. They released their first album, "Musique de la Grèce Antique," in 1979, which was followed by several other successful albums, including "Cantigas de Santa Maria" and "Música de la Edad Media." Paniagua's work with Atrium Musicae de Madrid brought him international acclaim and led to numerous performances and collaborations with other musicians and groups. In 1984, he collaborated with the Moroccan musician Said Chraibi on the album "Al-Andalus: Musique Arabo-Andalouse," which blended traditional Arabic and Spanish music. The album was a critical and commercial success and helped to further establish Paniagua's reputation as a versatile and innovative musician. Throughout his career, Paniagua has continued to explore and experiment with different styles and genres of music. He has collaborated with musicians from around the world and has incorporated elements of jazz, rock, and world music into his compositions. In addition to his work as a musician, Paniagua has also written extensively about music and has published several books on the history and theory of music. Paniagua's contributions to the world of classical music have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 1991, he was awarded the National Music Prize by the Spanish Ministry of Culture for his contributions to the preservation and promotion of early music. He has also been awarded the Medal of Fine Arts by the Spanish government and has been recognized by the French government for his contributions to the promotion of French culture. Despite his many accomplishments, Paniagua remains dedicated to his craft and continues to explore new avenues of musical expression. He has said that his goal as a musician is to "create music that speaks to the soul and touches the heart," and his work has certainly achieved this goal for countless listeners around the world.
