Kory Katseanes is a renowned conductor and music educator who has made significant contributions to the world of classical music. Born on August 22, 1957, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Katseanes grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a professional trumpet player, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Katseanes showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. Katseanes attended Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance. He then went on to pursue a Master of Music degree in orchestral conducting at the University of Utah. During his time at the University of Utah, Katseanes studied under the renowned conductor Maurice Abravanel, who had a significant influence on his career. After completing his studies, Katseanes began his career as a conductor, serving as the assistant conductor of the Utah Symphony Orchestra from 1983 to 1986. He then went on to serve as the music director of the Utah Valley Symphony from 1986 to 1992. During his tenure with the Utah Valley Symphony, Katseanes gained a reputation as a talented and innovative conductor, and his performances were well-received by audiences and critics alike. In 1992, Katseanes was appointed as the music director of the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra in Boise, Idaho. During his tenure with the Boise Philharmonic, Katseanes led the orchestra to new heights of artistic excellence, and his performances were widely praised for their energy, precision, and musicality. Under his leadership, the Boise Philharmonic became one of the most respected and admired orchestras in the region, and Katseanes himself became a beloved figure in the local music community. He has conducted performances with the Utah Symphony Orchestra, the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, and many others. Throughout his career, Katseanes has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the world of classical music. In 1997, he was awarded the Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts by the state of Idaho, and in 2002, he was named the Idaho Music Educator of the Year by the Idaho Music Educators Association. He has also been recognized for his work as a music educator, and has served as a guest lecturer and conductor at numerous universities and music schools throughout the United States.
