He later took up the violin and studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. Schuldt-Jensen's interest in conducting began when he was a student at the academy. He was inspired by the great conductors of the time, such as Leonard Bernstein and Herbert von Karajan, and began to study conducting with Jorma Panula in Finland. He also attended masterclasses with conductors such as Sir Colin Davis and Bernard Haitink. Schuldt-Jensen's career as a conductor began in 1995 when he won the first prize in the International Conductors' Competition in Besançon, France. In 2001, Schuldt-Jensen was appointed principal conductor of the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, a position he held until 2011. He also commissioned new works from Danish composers and collaborated with soloists such as Nikolaj Znaider and Leif Ove Andsnes. Schuldt-Jensen has also been a guest conductor with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. He has conducted at major venues such as the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, and the Suntory Hall in Tokyo. One of Schuldt-Jensen's most notable performances was his debut with the London Philharmonic Orchestra in 2007. He conducted a program of works by Sibelius, Nielsen, and Grieg, and received critical acclaim for his interpretation of the music. The Times described his conducting as "sensitive and insightful," while The Guardian praised his "clarity and precision." Schuldt-Jensen has also been recognized for his work as a conductor. In 2006, he was awarded the prestigious Queen Ingrid Foundation Prize for his contribution to Danish music. He has also been nominated for the Nordic Council Music Prize and the Gramophone Classical Music Awards. In addition to his work as a conductor, Schuldt-Jensen is also a respected educator. He has taught conducting at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and the Norwegian Academy of Music, and has given masterclasses in Europe, Asia, and North America. He is known for his ability to inspire young musicians and for his commitment to promoting new talent. Schuldt-Jensen's repertoire as a conductor is wide-ranging, encompassing works from the Baroque era to the present day. He has a particular affinity for the music of Nordic composers such as Sibelius, Nielsen, and Grieg, and has recorded several albums of their music with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra. Overall, Morten Schuldt-Jensen is a highly respected conductor who has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. His talent, dedication, and passion for music have earned him a place among the leading conductors of his generation.
