He graduated with honors in 1978 and went on to study at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, where he earned his master's degree in piano performance. He won several prestigious awards, including the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 1980 and the Prague Spring International Music Festival in 1982. Throughout his career, Posta performed in some of the world's most renowned concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He was known for his passionate and expressive performances, which captivated audiences around the world. Posta was also a prolific recording artist, with over 20 albums to his name. His recordings of the works of Chopin, Beethoven, and Mozart were particularly acclaimed, and he received numerous awards for his recordings, including the Grand Prix du Disque and the Diapason d'Or. In addition to his solo career, Posta was also a sought-after chamber musician. He frequently collaborated with other musicians, including violinist Josef Suk and cellist Mischa Maisky. Together, they performed some of the most beloved works in the classical repertoire, including Brahms' Piano Trio No. 1 and Beethoven's Archduke Trio. He was also a devoted teacher, and many of his students went on to have successful careers in music. Tragically, Posta's career was cut short when he passed away in 1991 at the age of 35.
