Haochen Zhang is a Chinese classical pianist who was born on July 23, 1990, in Shanghai, China. He began playing the piano at the age of three and showed exceptional talent from a young age. His parents recognized his potential and enrolled him in the Shanghai Conservatory of Music when he was just six years old. Zhang's early years of training were rigorous, and he spent countless hours practicing and perfecting his technique. He quickly gained recognition for his talent and won several competitions in China, including the National Piano Competition for Young Pianists and the China International Piano Competition. In 2004, at the age of 14, Zhang moved to the United States to study at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. He continued to excel in his studies and won the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2009, becoming the youngest winner in the competition's history. Zhang's victory at the Van Cliburn Competition launched his career as a professional pianist. He has since performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed at major music festivals, such as the Ravinia Festival, the Tanglewood Music Festival, and the Verbier Festival. One of Zhang's most notable performances was at the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He performed a duet with Chinese pianist Lang Lang, playing a piece composed by Tan Dun specifically for the occasion. The performance was watched by millions of people around the world and cemented Zhang's status as one of China's most talented young musicians.
