Brigitte Lesne is a renowned French musician and musicologist who has made significant contributions to the field of early music. Born in 1959 in Paris, France, Lesne grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. Her father was a composer and her mother was a singer, and they both encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Lesne began her musical education at the Conservatoire National de Région de Paris, where she studied the harp and the piano. She later went on to study musicology at the Sorbonne, where she developed a deep interest in early music. She was particularly drawn to the music of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, and she began to specialize in the performance of this repertoire. In 1980, Lesne co-founded the ensemble Alla Francesca, which specializes in the performance of medieval and Renaissance music. The ensemble quickly gained a reputation for its innovative and historically informed performances, and it has since become one of the leading early music ensembles in France. Lesne served as the artistic director of Alla Francesca for many years, and she continues to perform with the ensemble to this day. Over the course of her career, Lesne has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals. She has collaborated with many of the leading early music ensembles and musicians, including Jordi Savall, Hesperion XXI, and La Capella Reial de Catalunya. She has also recorded numerous albums, many of which have received critical acclaim. In addition to her work as a performer, Lesne is also a respected musicologist and scholar. She has published several books and articles on medieval and Renaissance music, and she has taught at the Sorbonne and other universities in France. Her research has focused on the performance practices of early music, and she has been instrumental in the revival of many forgotten musical traditions. Lesne's contributions to the field of early music have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 1996, she was awarded the Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros for her album "Le Roman de Fauvel," which was praised for its innovative approach to medieval music. She has also been awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and the Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite for her contributions to French culture. Despite her many accomplishments, Lesne remains committed to the pursuit of excellence in early music.
