New Music Consort is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1981 by its artistic director, Paul Dunkel. The ensemble is based in New York City and is known for its performances of contemporary classical music. Paul Dunkel, who is also the principal flutist of the New York City Ballet Orchestra, founded New Music Consort with the goal of creating a platform for contemporary classical music. The ensemble's mission is to perform works by living composers and to promote the creation of new music. The ensemble's main members include Paul Dunkel on flute, Christopher Oldfather on piano, and Linda Quan on violin. Over the years, the ensemble has also collaborated with a number of guest artists, including cellist Fred Sherry and soprano Lucy Shelton. The ensemble has also performed at a number of international festivals, including the Warsaw Autumn Festival in Poland and the Festival Internacional Cervantino in Mexico. One of the highlights of New Music Consort's career was their performance of Steve Reich's "Music for 18 Musicians" at Carnegie Hall in 1996.
