Artist Info
Role:EnsembleFestina Lente is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2003 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble's name, which means "make haste slowly" in Latin, reflects their approach to music-making, which emphasizes careful preparation and attention to detail. The founding members of Festina Lente were violinist Rachel Barton Pine, cellist Wendy Warner, and pianist Matthew Hagle. All three musicians were accomplished soloists in their own right, but they were drawn together by their love of chamber music and their desire to explore the rich repertoire of works written for violin, cello, and piano. Over the years, Festina Lente has expanded to include other musicians, but the core trio of Pine, Warner, and Hagle remains at the heart of the ensemble. They have been joined by a rotating cast of guest artists, including violist Matthew Lipman, clarinetist Anthony McGill, and flutist Mathieu Dufour, among others. One of the highlights of Festina Lente's early years was their debut performance at the Ravinia Festival in 2004. The Ravinia Festival is one of the oldest and most prestigious music festivals in the United States, and Festina Lente's performance was widely praised for its virtuosity and musical sensitivity. Since then, Festina Lente has performed at many of the world's leading concert halls and music festivals, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Salzburg Festival. They have also collaborated with some of the world's most renowned conductors and orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition to their live performances, Festina Lente has also released several critically acclaimed recordings. Their debut album, "Trio Settecento," was released in 2007 and featured works by Baroque composers such as Vivaldi, Corelli, and Handel. Their subsequent albums have explored a wide range of repertoire, from Romantic works by Brahms and Schumann to contemporary pieces by John Corigliano and Jennifer Higdon. Festina Lente has received numerous awards and accolades for their performances and recordings. In 2009, they were awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians who show exceptional promise for a major career in music. They have also been nominated for several Grammy Awards, including Best Chamber Music Performance and Best Classical Instrumental Solo. Despite their many accomplishments, Festina Lente remains committed to their original mission of exploring the rich and varied repertoire of chamber music. They continue to perform and record works by both well-known and lesser-known composers, and they are dedicated to bringing the beauty and complexity of chamber music to audiences around the world.More....
