Artist Info
Buzz Brass is a Canadian classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their unique sound and innovative approach to brass music since their founding in 2002. The group is made up of five talented musicians who are all accomplished brass players in their own right: Sylvain Lapointe (trumpet), Frédéric Gagnon (trumpet), Pascal Lafrenière (horn), Jason De Carufel (trombone), and Sylvain Arseneau (tuba). The idea for Buzz Brass was born out of a desire to create a new kind of brass ensemble that would push the boundaries of traditional classical music. The group's founders, Lapointe and Gagnon, were both members of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and had a shared passion for exploring the possibilities of brass music. They recruited Lafrenière, De Carufel, and Arseneau to join them, and Buzz Brass was born. From the beginning, Buzz Brass set out to create a sound that was both innovative and accessible. They drew inspiration from a wide range of musical genres, including jazz, pop, and world music, and incorporated these influences into their classical repertoire. The result was a sound that was fresh, exciting, and unlike anything else in the classical music world. Buzz Brass quickly gained a reputation for their dynamic live performances, which were characterized by their high energy and engaging stage presence. They began touring extensively throughout Canada and the United States, performing at major music festivals and concert halls. In 2005, they released their debut album, Buzz, which was met with critical acclaim and helped to establish them as one of the most exciting new ensembles in classical music. Over the years, Buzz Brass has continued to push the boundaries of brass music, experimenting with new sounds and styles and collaborating with a wide range of artists and musicians. They have performed with everyone from jazz pianist Oliver Jones to pop singer Céline Dion, and have even collaborated with Cirque du Soleil on several occasions. One of the highlights of Buzz Brass's career came in 2010, when they were invited to perform at the prestigious Festival de Lanaudière in Quebec. The festival is one of the largest and most respected classical music events in Canada, and Buzz Brass's performance was a major success. They received a standing ovation from the audience and were praised for their innovative approach to brass music. In addition to their live performances, Buzz Brass has also been recognized for their recordings. They have released several albums over the years, including Buzz Plays Bach, which features their unique take on the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. The album was a critical and commercial success, and helped to cement Buzz Brass's reputation as one of the most exciting and innovative ensembles in classical music. Buzz Brass has also been the recipient of several awards and honors over the years. In 2007, they were awarded the Opus Prize for Concert of the Year in the Jazz and World Music category, and in 2012 they received the Opus Prize for Concert of the Year in the Contemporary Music category. They have also been nominated for several Juno Awards, which are Canada's most prestigious music awards. Today, Buzz Brass continues to tour and perform, delighting audiences with their unique sound and innovative approach to brass music.More....
