Victor Ewald was a Russian composer and musician who was born on November 27, 1860, in Saint Petersburg, Russia. He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a cellist in the Imperial Orchestra. Ewald began his musical education at a young age, studying the cello and piano with his father. He later studied composition with Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. Ewald was a prolific composer, and his works include chamber music, orchestral music, and operas. He is best known for his brass quintets, which are considered some of the finest examples of the genre.
