Artist Info
Genre:ChamberKaren Geoghegan is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for herself as one of the most talented bassoonists of her generation. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1980, Geoghegan grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to classical music from a young age. Her father was a professional flautist, and her mother was a music teacher, so it was only natural that Geoghegan would follow in their footsteps. Geoghegan began playing the bassoon at the age of 11 and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, where she was awarded the prestigious Governors' Recital Prize for Woodwind in 2002. She then went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she was awarded the Queen's Commendation for Excellence in 2004. Geoghegan's career as a professional musician began in earnest in 2006 when she won the prestigious Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York. This was a major turning point in her career, as it gave her the opportunity to perform in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and with some of the most renowned orchestras. Since then, Geoghegan has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also performed at many of the world's most prestigious music festivals, including the BBC Proms, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Salzburg Festival. One of the highlights of Geoghegan's career was her performance of Mozart's Bassoon Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican Centre in London in 2008. This was a particularly special performance for Geoghegan, as it was the first time she had performed with the London Symphony Orchestra, and it was also the first time she had performed the Mozart concerto with a full orchestra. Geoghegan has also been recognized for her talent and achievements with a number of awards and accolades. In addition to the Governors' Recital Prize for Woodwind and the Queen's Commendation for Excellence, she has also been awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society's Julius Isserlis Scholarship, the Musicians Benevolent Fund's Ian Fleming Award, and the Martin Musical Scholarship Fund's Philip & Dorothy Green Award for Young Concert Artists. Geoghegan is also a passionate advocate for music education and has worked with a number of organizations to promote music education and outreach programs. She has worked with the London Symphony Orchestra's Discovery program, which provides music education and outreach programs to schools and communities in London, and she has also worked with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra's Connect program, which provides music education and outreach programs to schools and communities in Scotland. In addition to her work as a performer and music educator, Geoghegan is also an active recording artist. She has released several critically acclaimed albums, including her debut album, "Fiesta," which features works by Spanish and Latin American composers, and her most recent album, "Reverie," which features works by French composers. Overall, Karen Geoghegan is a talented and accomplished classical music artist who has made a significant impact on the world of classical music.More....
