He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a well-known composer and conductor in Bulgaria. Mazaroff began playing the piano at a young age and showed great promise as a musician. Mazaroff's musical education began at the Bulgarian State Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of Professor Pancho Vladigerov. Vladigerov was a renowned Bulgarian composer and pianist, and he recognized Mazaroff's talent early on. Under Vladigerov's guidance, Mazaroff developed a deep understanding of Bulgarian folk music and incorporated it into his playing. In 1943, Mazaroff won first prize at the National Piano Competition in Sofia, which launched his career as a concert pianist. He went on to perform extensively throughout Europe, including in Germany, France, Italy, and the United Kingdom. In 1947, Mazaroff made his debut in the United States, performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Mazaroff's performances were highly acclaimed by critics and audiences alike. He was praised for his technical skill and his ability to convey emotion through his playing. Mazaroff was particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Bulgarian composers, including Vladigerov, Dobri Hristov, and Marin Goleminov. In addition to his performances, Mazaroff was also a respected teacher. He taught at the Bulgarian State Conservatory and later at the University of Michigan in the United States. Many of his students went on to have successful careers as pianists. Throughout his career, Mazaroff received numerous awards and honors. In 1950, he was awarded the Order of Cyril and Methodius, one of Bulgaria's highest honors. In 1962, he was awarded the Medal of Merit by the Bulgarian government. In 1972, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Bulgaria. Mazaroff continued to perform and teach until his death in 1987.
