Pierre Pincemaille was a renowned French organist and composer who was born on December 8, 1956, in Lille, France. He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a church organist. Pincemaille began playing the piano at a young age and later switched to the organ. He studied at the Conservatoire National de Région de Lille and later at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he won several awards. Pincemaille's career as an organist began in 1979 when he was appointed as the titular organist of the Basilique Notre-Dame de Bonsecours in Rouen, France. He held this position for over 30 years and became one of the most respected organists in France. He also served as the titular organist of the Basilique Saint-Denis in Paris from 1987 to 2018. Pincemaille was known for his virtuosic performances and his ability to improvise on the organ. He was a master of the French Romantic repertoire and was particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Charles-Marie Widor and Louis Vierne. He also performed and recorded the works of other composers, including Johann Sebastian Bach, Olivier Messiaen, and César Franck. Throughout his career, Pincemaille performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals in the world. He performed at the Royal Festival Hall in London, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Salle Pleyel in Paris, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. He also performed at the International Organ Festival in St. Albans, England, and the Festival International d'Orgue de Chartres in France. In addition to his performances, Pincemaille was also a prolific composer. He wrote numerous works for the organ, including preludes, fugues, and symphonies. He also composed works for other instruments, including the piano and the violin. His compositions were often inspired by his improvisations and were known for their virtuosity and complexity. Pincemaille received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 1986, he won the Grand Prix de Chartres, one of the most prestigious awards for organists. He was also awarded the Médaille d'Or de la Ville de Paris in 2006 and was made a Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2010. Despite his success, Pincemaille remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He was known for his generosity and his willingness to share his knowledge and expertise with others. He taught at the Conservatoire National de Région de Rouen and was a frequent guest lecturer and masterclass teacher at universities and conservatories around the world. Sadly, Pierre Pincemaille passed away on January 12, 2018, at the age of 61. His death was a great loss to the world of classical music, and he was mourned by his colleagues, students, and fans around the world. However, his legacy lives on through his recordings, compositions, and the countless musicians he inspired and influenced throughout his career.
