Born on October 1, 1970, in Sydney, Australia, Cislowska began playing the piano at the age of three and showed exceptional talent from an early age. Cislowska’s musical education began at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where she studied with Neta Maughan and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1990. She then went on to study with Gordon Watson at the Royal College of Music in London, where she earned a Master of Music degree in 1993. Cislowska’s career as a professional pianist began in the early 1990s, and she quickly established herself as one of Australia’s most promising young musicians. In 1991, she won the ABC Symphony Australia Young Performers Award, which led to numerous performance opportunities and collaborations with leading orchestras and conductors. Throughout her career, Cislowska has performed extensively throughout Australia and internationally, appearing as a soloist with orchestras such as the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also given recitals at major venues such as the Wigmore Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Lincoln Center in New York. Cislowska’s repertoire is diverse and includes works from the Baroque era to contemporary music. She has a particular affinity for the music of Australian composers, and has premiered numerous works by leading Australian composers such as Ross Edwards, Peter Sculthorpe, and Elena Kats-Chernin. In addition to her performing career, Cislowska is also a respected recording artist. She has recorded over 20 albums, including solo recordings of works by Chopin, Liszt, and Debussy, as well as chamber music recordings with leading Australian musicians such as the Goldner String Quartet and the Australian String Quartet. Cislowska’s recordings have received critical acclaim and numerous awards, including the ARIA Award for Best Classical Album in 2015 for her recording of Peter Sculthorpe’s complete works for solo piano. She has also been nominated for several other ARIA Awards, as well as the prestigious Gramophone Award. Throughout her career, Cislowska has received numerous accolades and awards for her contributions to the Australian classical music scene. In 2015, she was awarded the prestigious Australia Council Music Fellowship, which recognizes outstanding achievements and contributions to the arts in Australia. She has also been awarded the Order of Australia Medal for services to music. Cislowska is known not only for her exceptional technical ability and musicality, but also for her dedication to promoting Australian music and supporting emerging Australian composers. She has been involved in numerous educational and outreach programs, and has served as a mentor to many young musicians.
