Role:EnsembleGenre:ChamberXASAX is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their unique sound and innovative approach to music since their founding in 1993. The ensemble is made up of four saxophonists, each with their own distinct style and sound, who have come together to create a truly remarkable musical experience. The founding members of XASAX are Jean-Denis Michat, Nicolas Prost, Lise Baudouin, and Michael Cousteau. All four members are accomplished saxophonists in their own right, with extensive experience performing in various ensembles and orchestras. However, it was their shared passion for exploring the possibilities of the saxophone as a chamber music instrument that brought them together to form XASAX. From the beginning, XASAX set out to push the boundaries of what was possible with the saxophone. They sought to create a sound that was both unique and versatile, blending elements of classical music with jazz, contemporary music, and even rock and pop. Their goal was to showcase the full range of the saxophone's capabilities, from its rich, warm tones to its piercing, high-pitched notes. Over the years, XASAX has become known for their dynamic and engaging performances, which showcase their technical skill and musicality. They have performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Salzburg Festival, and the Paris Philharmonic. They have also collaborated with some of the most renowned composers and musicians of our time, including Pierre Boulez, Steve Reich, and John Adams. One of the highlights of XASAX's career was their performance at the 2008 World Saxophone Congress in Bangkok, Thailand. The ensemble was invited to perform as part of the opening ceremony, and their performance was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience. This performance helped to cement XASAX's reputation as one of the most innovative and exciting saxophone ensembles in the world. In addition to their live performances, XASAX has also released several critically acclaimed albums. Their debut album, "XASAX," was released in 1996 and featured a mix of classical and contemporary music. This album was followed by "XASAX Live," which was recorded during a performance at the Paris Philharmonic in 2001. Their most recent album, "XASAX Plays Piazzolla," was released in 2018 and features the music of Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla. XASAX has received numerous awards and accolades throughout their career. In 2000, they were awarded the prestigious Victoires de la Musique Classique award in the chamber music category. They have also been awarded the Diapason d'Or, the Choc de Classica, and the Grand Prix du Disque. Despite their success, XASAX remains committed to pushing the boundaries of what is possible with the saxophone. They continue to explore new sounds and styles, and are always looking for new ways to showcase the versatility of their instrument. With their innovative approach to music and their unparalleled technical skill, XASAX is sure to remain one of the most exciting and dynamic classical music ensembles in the world for years to come.More....
