Birth:November 20, 1948 in The NetherlandsGenre:ChamberConcertoWilbert Hazelzet is a renowned Dutch flutist who has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. Born on April 9, 1948, in Amsterdam, Hazelzet showed an early interest in music and began playing the recorder at the age of six. He later switched to the flute and went on to become one of the most respected and sought-after flutists of his generation. Hazelzet's musical education began at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, where he studied with Frans Vester. He later continued his studies with Jean-Pierre Rampal in Paris and with Barthold Kuijken in Brussels. These experiences helped shape his musical style and approach to playing the flute. In 1975, Hazelzet became a member of the Orchestra of the 18th Century, a renowned period-instrument ensemble founded by Frans Brüggen. With this group, Hazelzet performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States, gaining a reputation as one of the leading interpreters of Baroque and Classical music. Hazelzet's solo career began in the early 1980s, and he quickly established himself as a virtuoso performer with a deep understanding of the music he played. He has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. One of Hazelzet's most notable performances was his interpretation of Mozart's Flute Concerto No. 1 in G major, which he recorded with the Orchestra of the 18th Century in 1986. This recording received critical acclaim and helped establish Hazelzet as one of the leading interpreters of Mozart's music. In addition to his work as a performer, Hazelzet has also been active as a teacher and mentor. He has taught at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam and the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, and has given masterclasses throughout Europe and the United States. Many of his students have gone on to successful careers as performers and teachers. Hazelzet's contributions to the world of classical music have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 1998, he was awarded the Order of the Netherlands Lion, one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a Dutch citizen. He has also been awarded the Prix d'Excellence from the Dutch Ministry of Culture and the VSCD Classical Music Prize. Despite his many accomplishments, Hazelzet remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and teach, and his passion for music is evident in everything he does. His legacy as one of the greatest flutists of his generation is secure, and his influence on the world of classical music will be felt for generations to come.More....
