His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Ferber was exposed to classical music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Ferber's talent was evident from an early age, and he began performing in public at the age of six. He studied at the Vienna Conservatory, where he received a rigorous education in classical music. He was a prodigious student and won numerous awards and competitions throughout his youth. In 1963, Ferber made his debut as a soloist with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The performance was a resounding success, and Ferber quickly became known as one of the most talented young pianists in Europe. He continued to perform with the Vienna Philharmonic and other major orchestras throughout Europe, earning critical acclaim for his virtuosic performances. In 1967, Ferber made his debut in the United States, performing with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. The performance was a huge success, and Ferber quickly became a favorite of American audiences. He continued to tour extensively throughout the United States, performing with major orchestras and at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. Ferber's repertoire was vast, encompassing works by composers from Bach to Bartok. He was particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Mozart, and Chopin. His performances were marked by their technical brilliance and emotional depth, and he was widely regarded as one of the greatest pianists of his generation.
