Ida Kavafian is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music through her exceptional talent and dedication. Born on November 29, 1952, in Istanbul, Turkey, Ida Kavafian was raised in a family of musicians. Her father, Antranig Kavafian, was a violinist, and her mother, Bercuhi Berberyan, was a pianist. Her brother, Ani Kavafian, is also a violinist. Ida Kavafian began playing the violin at the age of four, and by the time she was seven, she had already given her first public performance. She received her early training from her father and later studied with Ivan Galamian at the Juilliard School in New York. She also studied with Joseph Gingold at Indiana University. She has been a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center since 1972 and has performed with many other chamber music ensembles, including the Guarneri Quartet and the Beaux Arts Trio. Kavafian has recorded extensively throughout her career, with over 30 albums to her name. Her recordings have received critical acclaim and have won numerous awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance in 1992 for her recording of the Brahms Piano Quartets with the Beaux Arts Trio. Kavafian is also a dedicated teacher and has taught at many prestigious institutions, including the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the Cleveland Institute of Music. She is currently on the faculty of the Bard College Conservatory of Music. Throughout her career, Kavafian has been recognized for her contributions to the world of music. In 2008, she was awarded the Artist of the Year Award by the Arts Council of the Northern Adirondacks. In 2012, she was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award by the Juilliard School.
