Alexandre Gattet is a French classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a virtuoso on the bassoon. Born in 1989 in the city of Lyon, Gattet grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to classical music from a young age. His father was a professional bassoonist, and Gattet was drawn to the instrument from an early age. Gattet began his formal music education at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Lyon, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned bassoonist Pascal Gallois. He quickly distinguished himself as a talented young musician, and in 2007 he was awarded first prize in the national competition for young bassoonists. After completing his studies in Lyon, Gattet went on to study at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he continued to hone his skills under the guidance of some of the most respected bassoonists in the world. During his time in Paris, Gattet also had the opportunity to perform with some of the city's most prestigious orchestras, including the Orchestre de Paris and the Orchestre National de France. In 2011, Gattet was awarded first prize in the prestigious ARD International Music Competition in Munich, Germany. This competition is widely regarded as one of the most challenging and prestigious music competitions in the world, and Gattet's victory was a major milestone in his career. The win brought him international recognition and opened up new opportunities for him to perform on some of the world's most renowned stages. Since winning the ARD competition, Gattet has gone on to perform with some of the world's most respected orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with some of the most celebrated conductors of our time, including Daniel Barenboim, Simon Rattle, and Gustavo Dudamel. In addition to his work as a soloist and orchestral musician, Gattet is also an active chamber musician. He has performed with some of the most respected chamber ensembles in the world, including the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet. He is also a member of the Ensemble Intercontemporain, a Paris-based ensemble dedicated to the performance of contemporary classical music. Gattet's repertoire is wide-ranging, encompassing works from the Baroque era to the present day. He is particularly known for his interpretations of contemporary music, and has premiered works by some of the most important composers of our time, including Pierre Boulez, Kaija Saariaho, and Matthias Pintscher. In addition to his performing career, Gattet is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught masterclasses at some of the world's most prestigious music schools, including the Juilliard School in New York and the Royal Academy of Music in London. He is also a professor of bassoon at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he himself studied. Throughout his career, Gattet has been recognized for his exceptional talent and dedication to his craft. In addition to his win at the ARD competition, he has been awarded numerous other prizes and honors, including the Prix de la Fondation d'entreprise Banque Populaire and the Prix de la Fondation Meyer.
