Composer:Eleanor DaleyGenre:ChoralStyle:ChoralAverage_duration:2:03Gabriel's Message is a choral work composed by Eleanor Daley in 1990. It is based on a traditional Basque carol, "Birjina gaztetto bat zegoen," which tells the story of the Annunciation, when the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary to tell her she would give birth to Jesus. The piece is written for SATB choir and piano, with an optional flute part. It is in three movements, each of which tells a different part of the story. The first movement, "The Angel Gabriel," is a lively and joyful setting of the opening lines of the carol, in which the angel Gabriel appears to Mary. The second movement, "The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy," is a slower and more contemplative setting of the middle section of the carol, in which Mary reflects on the news she has received. The third movement, "The Babe in Bethlehem," is a triumphant setting of the final section of the carol, in which the shepherds come to see the newborn Jesus. Daley's setting of the carol is characterized by its lush harmonies, soaring melodies, and rhythmic energy. The piano part is particularly virtuosic, with cascading arpeggios and driving rhythms that propel the music forward. The flute part, if included, adds a delicate and ethereal quality to the sound. Overall, Gabriel's Message is a beautiful and uplifting work that captures the wonder and joy of the Christmas story. Its combination of traditional and contemporary elements makes it a popular choice for choirs of all levels and styles.More....
