"Gli orti esperidi" is an opera seria in three acts composed by Nicola Porpora. The opera was first performed in Rome in 1721. The libretto was written by Apostolo Zeno and Pietro Pariati. The plot of "Gli orti esperidi" revolves around the mythological story of Hercules and his quest for the golden apples of the Hesperides. The opera begins with Hercules arriving in the kingdom of Licaonia, where he falls in love with the princess Deianira. However, Deianira is already betrothed to the tyrant Erimante, who is also seeking the golden apples.
