Tasha Dzubay is a classical music artist who has made a name for herself as a talented composer and pianist. Born in 1986 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dzubay showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Her parents, both musicians themselves, recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue her passion for music. Dzubay's early musical education was focused on classical piano, and she quickly became a skilled performer. She studied with several renowned teachers, including Marina Lupinacci and Ralph Zitterbart, and won numerous awards and competitions throughout her youth. In 2004, she was named a National YoungArts Foundation winner, and in 2005, she won the Pittsburgh Concert Society's Major Auditions competition. After graduating from high school, Dzubay attended the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where she studied composition with David Liptak and piano with Tony Caramia. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree in 2008 and went on to pursue a Master of Music degree in composition at the Yale School of Music. During her time at Yale, Dzubay continued to excel as both a composer and pianist. She was awarded the Woods Chandler Memorial Prize for the best composition by a graduating student in 2010 and was also a finalist for the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award. Her compositions have been performed by a variety of ensembles, including the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Yale Philharmonia, and the New York Youth Symphony. In addition to her work as a composer, Dzubay has also established herself as a talented pianist. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States and Europe, and has collaborated with a variety of musicians and ensembles. In 2012, she was a featured performer at the Bang on a Can Summer Festival in North Adams, Massachusetts. Dzubay's music is characterized by its intricate harmonies, rhythmic complexity, and emotional depth. She draws inspiration from a variety of sources, including nature, literature, and visual art. Her compositions often explore themes of memory, loss, and transformation, and she is known for her ability to create vivid sonic landscapes that transport listeners to other worlds. Some of Dzubay's most notable compositions include "Luminous," a work for orchestra that was premiered by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in 2011, and "The Light Fantastic," a piece for wind ensemble that was commissioned by the Yale Concert Band in 2010. She has also written several works for chamber ensembles, including "The Space Between," a piece for string quartet that was premiered by the JACK Quartet in 2012. Dzubay's music has been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In addition to the prizes she won as a student, she has received commissions from a variety of organizations, including the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Yale School of Music, and the New York Youth Symphony. She has also been awarded residencies at several prestigious institutions, including the MacDowell Colony and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Today, Dzubay continues to be an active performer and composer. She is currently based in New York City, where she teaches composition and piano at the Third Street Music School Settlement. She is also a member of the composer collective Sleeping Giant, which is dedicated to creating new and innovative music.
