Role:PerformerYlioppilaskunnan Laulajat, also known as YL, is a Finnish male choir that has been active for over 130 years. The choir was founded in 1883 by a group of students at the University of Helsinki who shared a passion for singing. The group quickly gained popularity and began performing at various events around the city. In the early years, YL focused on performing traditional Finnish folk songs and choral music. However, as the choir grew in size and reputation, they began to expand their repertoire to include classical works from composers such as Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. One of the highlights of YL's early years was their performance at the 1900 Paris World Exhibition. The choir was invited to represent Finland at the event and received widespread acclaim for their performances. This helped to establish YL as one of the premier male choirs in Europe. Throughout the 20th century, YL continued to perform at major events and festivals around the world. They also released numerous recordings and collaborated with other artists and ensembles. One of their most notable collaborations was with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, with whom they performed Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in 1962. In addition to their performances, YL has also been recognized for their contributions to Finnish culture and music. They have received numerous awards and honors, including the Order of the Lion of Finland and the Pro Finlandia Medal. Today, YL continues to be an active and influential force in the world of classical music. They regularly perform at concerts and festivals around the world and have released several critically acclaimed recordings in recent years. Despite their long history, the choir remains committed to preserving and promoting the rich tradition of Finnish choral music.More....
