Donka Angatscheva is a Bulgarian classical pianist who has gained international recognition for her exceptional talent and musicality. Born on May 22, 1987, in Sofia, Bulgaria, Donka showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. Her parents, both music teachers, recognized her potential and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Donka's early musical education was at the National School of Music "Lyubomir Pipkov" in Sofia, where she studied with renowned Bulgarian pianist and pedagogue, Prof. Stella Dimitrova-Maistorova. She continued her studies at the National Academy of Music "Pancho Vladigerov" in Sofia, where she received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Piano Performance under the guidance of Prof. Milena Mollova. During her studies, Donka participated in numerous national and international competitions, winning top prizes in many of them. In 2005, she won first prize at the National Competition for Young Pianists "Svetoslav Obretenov" in Provadia, Bulgaria. In 2007, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition "Citta di Barletta" in Italy, and in 2008, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition "Citta di Marsala" in Italy. Donka's talent and hard work earned her a scholarship to study at the prestigious Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, Germany, where she studied with Prof. Michael Schäfer. She also received a scholarship from the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture, which allowed her to continue her studies in Germany. In 2011, Donka won first prize at the International Piano Competition "Citta di Cantù" in Italy, which was a major breakthrough in her career. This competition opened many doors for her, and she began to receive invitations to perform in major concert halls and festivals around the world. Since then, Donka has performed as a soloist with many orchestras, including the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, the Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra Filarmonica di Torino, and the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana. She has also given recitals in prestigious venues such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Munich Philharmonic, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Gewandhaus Leipzig, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, and the Carnegie Hall in New York. Donka's repertoire is vast and includes works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Liszt, Brahms, Debussy, Ravel, Prokofiev, and many others. She is particularly known for her interpretations of the music of Chopin, and has been praised for her ability to convey the emotional depth and complexity of his music. In addition to her performing career, Donka is also a dedicated teacher and has given masterclasses in Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, and the United States. She is currently a professor of piano at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. Donka has received many awards and honors throughout her career, including the "Young Musician of the Year" award from the Bulgarian National Radio in 2008, the "Musician of the Year" award from the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture in 2012, and the "Bavarian Art Prize" in 2018. She has also been a recipient of the "New Talent" award from the Munich Music Foundation and the "Young Artist" award from the Sofia Municipality. Donka Angatscheva is a true artist who has dedicated her life to music. Her exceptional talent, musicality, and dedication have earned her a place among the world's most renowned pianists.
