He was the youngest of three children and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. His father was a music teacher, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Franz showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. Franz's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his mother and later studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist, Friedrich Gulda. Franz's talent was evident from an early age, and he quickly gained recognition for his exceptional skills. In 1968, Franz was accepted into the Mozarteum University of Salzburg, where he studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and teacher, Karl-Heinz Kämmerling. During his time at the Mozarteum, Franz honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of classical music. After completing his studies, Franz began performing in concerts across Europe. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented pianist and was invited to perform at some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world. In 1975, he made his debut at the Carnegie Hall in New York City, where he received a standing ovation for his performance. Over the years, Franz continued to perform at some of the most renowned concert halls in the world, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Vienna State Opera. He also collaborated with some of the most celebrated conductors and orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Vienna Philharmonic. In addition to his performances, Franz was also a prolific recording artist. He recorded over 50 albums throughout his career, which included works by some of the most celebrated composers in classical music, such as Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin. Franz's talent and dedication to his craft were recognized with numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 1982, he was awarded the prestigious Grand Prix du Disque for his recording of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5. He was also awarded the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art in 1995 and the Bavarian Order of Merit in 2005. Despite his success, Franz remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He continued to perform and record music until his death on June 15, 2015, at the age of 65.
