Peter Stern was born on May 15, 1985, in Vienna, Austria. He was born into a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Peter was exposed to classical music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Peter's talent for music was evident from a young age, and he began performing in public at the age of six. He quickly gained a reputation as a prodigy, and by the age of ten, he had already won several competitions and performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe. In 1996, Peter's family moved to the United States, where he continued his musical education. He attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under some of the most renowned piano teachers in the world. During his time at Juilliard, Peter continued to win competitions and perform in major concert halls around the world. One of Peter's most notable performances was at the Carnegie Hall in 2005. He performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, also known as the Emperor Concerto, with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. The performance was widely praised by critics, who hailed Peter as a rising star in the classical music world. In 2007, Peter won the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. The competition, held every four years, is one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world. Peter's performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 in the final round of the competition was particularly impressive, and he was awarded first prize. Following his win at the Van Cliburn Competition, Peter's career took off. He began performing with some of the world's most renowned orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Vienna Philharmonic. He also began recording albums, with his first album, featuring works by Beethoven and Chopin, being released in 2009. In 2012, Peter was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is awarded to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional talent and promise. The grant provided Peter with financial support to continue his musical education and career. Throughout his career, Peter has continued to push the boundaries of classical music. He has collaborated with musicians from other genres, including jazz and rock, and has performed in non-traditional venues, such as nightclubs and outdoor festivals. He has also been an advocate for music education, and has worked with organizations to bring music education to underprivileged children. In 2019, Peter announced that he would be taking a break from performing to focus on his family and personal life.
