Sanders Schier was born on May 15, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Sanders showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Sanders received his formal music education at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the renowned pianist and teacher, Yoheved Kaplinsky. During his time at Juilliard, Sanders won numerous awards and competitions, including the prestigious Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. After graduating from Juilliard, Sanders began his professional career as a concert pianist, performing in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented and exciting young pianists of his generation. One of Sanders' most memorable performances was his debut with the New York Philharmonic in 2009, where he performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, also known as the "Emperor" concerto. The performance was hailed by critics as a triumph, with The New York Times calling Sanders "a pianist of extraordinary talent and sensitivity." In addition to his solo performances, Sanders has also collaborated with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He has worked with many of the world's most renowned conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, and Riccardo Muti. Sanders has also recorded several critically acclaimed albums, including a complete cycle of Beethoven's piano sonatas, which was praised by Gramophone magazine as "a landmark achievement." He has also recorded works by Chopin, Liszt, and Schumann, among others. In addition to his performing career, Sanders is also a dedicated teacher and mentor to young musicians. He has taught masterclasses at some of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School, the Royal Academy of Music in London, and the Conservatoire de Paris. Throughout his career, Sanders has received numerous awards and honors, including the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Gilmore Artist Award, and the Arthur Rubinstein Prize. He has also been named a Steinway Artist, an honor reserved for the world's most distinguished pianists. Despite his many accomplishments, Sanders remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to push himself to new heights as a musician, always striving to improve and grow as an artist.
