Milkana Nikolova is a Bulgarian classical pianist who has gained international recognition for her virtuosic performances and musical interpretations. Born on May 5, 1985, in Sofia, Bulgaria, Nikolova showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. Her parents, both music teachers, recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Nikolova's early musical education was at the National School of Music "Lyubomir Pipkov" in Sofia, where she studied with renowned Bulgarian pianist and pedagogue, Prof. Stella Dimitrova-Maistorova. She continued her studies at the National Academy of Music "Pancho Vladigerov" in Sofia, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance under the guidance of Prof. Milena Mollova. Nikolova then went on to pursue a Master's degree in Piano Performance at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria, where she studied with Prof. Stefan Vladar. Throughout her education, Nikolova participated in numerous national and international piano competitions, winning top prizes in many of them. In 2003, she won first prize at the National Piano Competition "Svetoslav Obretenov" in Provadia, Bulgaria. In 2005, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition "Young Virtuosos" in Sofia, Bulgaria. In 2007, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition "Citta di Barletta" in Italy. These early successes helped to establish Nikolova as a rising star in the world of classical music. After completing her studies in Vienna, Nikolova embarked on a career as a concert pianist, performing extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States. She has appeared as a soloist with many orchestras, including the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Chamber Orchestra. She has also given recitals at prestigious venues such as the Musikverein in Vienna, the Carnegie Hall in New York, and the Suntory Hall in Tokyo. Nikolova's repertoire is vast and varied, ranging from the Baroque era to contemporary music. She is particularly known for her interpretations of the works of Frederic Chopin, Franz Liszt, and Sergei Rachmaninoff. Her performances are characterized by a deep emotional intensity and a technical precision that has earned her critical acclaim. In addition to her performing career, Nikolova is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. She has taught masterclasses at universities and music schools around the world, including the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and the Juilliard School in New York. She is also a member of the faculty at the International Summer Academy "Semper Music" in Austria. Nikolova's achievements have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 2010, she was awarded the "Musician of the Year" prize by the Bulgarian National Radio. In 2012, she was awarded the "Young Artist of the Year" prize by the Austrian Ministry of Culture. In 2015, she was awarded the "Golden Lyre" prize by the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture. Despite her many accomplishments, Nikolova remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to strive for excellence in her performances and to inspire the next generation of musicians through her teaching and mentorship. With her talent, passion, and dedication, Milkana Nikolova has established herself as one of the leading pianists of her generation.
