Role:ComposerGenre:ChamberConcertoDavid Walter was a renowned classical music artist who made significant contributions to the world of music through his exceptional skills as an oboist, teacher, and composer. Born on August 5, 1947, in New York City, David Walter grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist, which exposed him to music at an early age. David Walter's love for music began when he was just six years old, and he started playing the piano. However, he later switched to the oboe, which became his primary instrument. He attended the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned oboist Robert Bloom. He later continued his studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, where he studied with Pierre Pierlot. David Walter's career as a professional oboist began in 1970 when he joined the Orchestre de Paris as the principal oboist. He held this position for ten years before leaving to pursue a solo career. During his time with the Orchestre de Paris, he performed under the baton of some of the world's most renowned conductors, including Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein, and Georg Solti. David Walter's solo career was equally impressive, and he performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He was also a regular performer at major music festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh Festival, and the Mostly Mozart Festival. David Walter's exceptional skills as an oboist earned him numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 1972, he won the prestigious ARD International Music Competition in Munich, which helped to launch his solo career. He was also awarded the Prix de la Ville de Paris in 1975 and the Grand Prix du Disque in 1980. In addition to his career as a performer, David Walter was also a respected teacher and composer. He taught at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris and the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany. He also wrote several compositions for the oboe, including a concerto for oboe and orchestra, which was premiered in 1983. David Walter's contributions to the world of music were not limited to his performances, teaching, and compositions. He was also a passionate advocate for the oboe and worked tirelessly to improve the instrument's design and sound. He collaborated with the French instrument maker, F. Lorée, to develop a new model of oboe, which became known as the "David Walter model." David Walter's career as a musician spanned over four decades, and he continued to perform and teach until his death on July 19, 2017. His legacy as one of the world's greatest oboists and a passionate advocate for the instrument continues to inspire and influence musicians around the world.More....
