InAlto is a classical music ensemble that specializes in the performance of early music. The ensemble was founded in 2008 by countertenor and conductor Lambert Colson, who sought to create a group that would explore the rich repertoire of Renaissance and Baroque music. Since its founding, InAlto has become one of the leading ensembles in the field of early music, known for its innovative programming and virtuosic performances. The main members of InAlto are Lambert Colson, who serves as the ensemble's artistic director and countertenor, and a rotating cast of instrumentalists and vocalists. The ensemble's core members include sopranos Caroline Weynants and Céline Scheen, tenor Reinoud Van Mechelen, and bass-baritone Lionel Meunier. In addition to these core members, InAlto frequently collaborates with other musicians and ensembles, including the ensemble Les Muffatti and the conductor and harpsichordist Leonardo García Alarcón. InAlto's performances are characterized by their attention to historical accuracy and their commitment to bringing early music to life for modern audiences. The ensemble uses period instruments and employs historically informed performance practices, such as improvisation and ornamentation, to recreate the sound and style of the music as it would have been heard in its original context. At the same time, InAlto seeks to make this music accessible and engaging for contemporary audiences, often incorporating multimedia elements and theatrical elements into their performances. InAlto has performed at some of the most prestigious venues and festivals in Europe and beyond, including the Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, the Festival de Saintes, the Festival de Sablé, and the Festival de La Chaise-Dieu. The ensemble has also collaborated with a number of leading orchestras and ensembles, including the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, and the Collegium Vocale Gent. One of InAlto's most notable performances was their 2015 production of Monteverdi's L'Orfeo, which was hailed as a "triumph" by critics and audiences alike. The production, which was directed by Vincent Dumestre and featured a cast of leading early music performers, was praised for its "vibrant and imaginative" staging and its "exquisite" musical performances. InAlto has also received critical acclaim for their recordings, which include a number of highly regarded albums of Renaissance and Baroque music. In addition to their performances and recordings, InAlto is also committed to education and outreach. The ensemble frequently gives masterclasses and workshops for young musicians and participates in educational programs for schools and community groups. InAlto also collaborates with museums and cultural institutions to create multimedia exhibitions and installations that explore the history and culture of early music. In recognition of their contributions to the field of early music, InAlto has received a number of awards and honors. In 2012, the ensemble was awarded the Prix Caecilia, one of the most prestigious awards for classical music in Belgium, for their album "La Bella Minuta." In 2016, InAlto was awarded the Prix de la Critique de l'Académie Charles Cros for their album "Vespro della Beata Vergine," which was praised for its "sublime" performances and "impeccable" musicianship. Overall, InAlto is a dynamic and innovative ensemble that is dedicated to exploring the rich and varied repertoire of early music.More....
