Vasili Nebolsin is a renowned classical pianist known for his virtuosic performances and sensitive interpretations of a wide range of repertoire. Born in Moscow in 1971, Nebolsin began playing the piano at a young age and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied at the Moscow Conservatory with renowned pianist and pedagogue Vera Gornostaeva, and later continued his studies with Dmitri Bashkirov at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid. Nebolsin's career as a concert pianist began to take off in the late 1990s, when he won several major international competitions, including the Leeds International Piano Competition in 1996 and the Santander Paloma O'Shea International Piano Competition in 1999. These victories brought him to the attention of audiences and critics around the world, and he quickly established himself as one of the most exciting young pianists of his generation. Since then, Nebolsin has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also collaborated with many distinguished conductors, such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Valery Gergiev, and Yuri Temirkanov. Nebolsin's repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works by many of the great composers of the classical and romantic periods, as well as contemporary composers. He has recorded numerous albums for the Naxos label, including complete cycles of the piano music of Rachmaninoff, Medtner, and Scriabin, as well as works by Chopin, Liszt, and Prokofiev. One of Nebolsin's most memorable performances was his debut at the BBC Proms in 2001, where he played Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the London Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev. The performance was widely praised for its technical brilliance and emotional depth, and helped to cement Nebolsin's reputation as one of the leading pianists of his generation. In addition to his performing career, Nebolsin is also a dedicated teacher and has given masterclasses at many prestigious institutions around the world, including the Royal Academy of Music in London, the Juilliard School in New York, and the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
