Griffin Music Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2005 by a group of talented musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in New York City and has gained a reputation for its innovative programming and exceptional performances. The founding members of Griffin Music Ensemble were violinist Sarah Griffin, cellist David Griffin, and pianist Emily Griffin. All three musicians had extensive experience performing in various orchestras and chamber groups, and they decided to form their own ensemble to explore the rich repertoire of chamber music. Over the years, Griffin Music Ensemble has expanded to include other talented musicians, including violist Rachel Smith and clarinetist Michael Johnson. The ensemble's core members are still the Griffin siblings, who bring a unique chemistry and musicality to their performances. One of the highlights of Griffin Music Ensemble's career was their performance at the Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall in 2010. The ensemble was invited to perform as part of the prestigious Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's Emerging Artists program, which showcases the most promising young chamber groups in the country. The program featured works by Mozart, Brahms, and Dvorak, and the ensemble received rave reviews for their virtuosic playing and sensitive interpretations. The New York Times praised the ensemble's "impeccable ensemble playing" and "deep musicality," while the New Yorker called them "a group to watch." Griffin Music Ensemble has also been recognized for their innovative programming, which often features lesser-known works alongside more familiar pieces. In 2015, the ensemble performed a program of works by female composers, including Clara Schumann, Fanny Mendelssohn, and Amy Beach. The program was well-received by audiences and critics alike, and the ensemble was praised for their commitment to promoting diversity in classical music. In addition to their performances, Griffin Music Ensemble is also dedicated to music education and outreach. The ensemble regularly performs in schools and community centers, and they have developed a series of interactive programs that introduce young audiences to the joys of classical music. Griffin Music Ensemble has received numerous awards and accolades over the years, including the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2012. The grant is awarded annually to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional promise for a career in classical music, and it has been awarded to some of the most celebrated musicians of our time. The ensemble has also been featured on NPR's "Performance Today" and has performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls in the country, including Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. Despite their success, Griffin Music Ensemble remains committed to their mission of bringing classical music to new audiences and promoting diversity in the classical music world. The ensemble continues to perform regularly and to inspire audiences with their passion and musicality.
