She was the daughter of a music teacher and began singing at a young age. Her father recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Robin began her formal training at the Paris Conservatory at the age of 12. She studied under the tutelage of Claire Croiza, a renowned French mezzo-soprano. Robin's talent was evident from the start, and she quickly became one of the most promising students at the conservatory. In 1936, at the age of 18, Robin made her professional debut at the Paris Opera. She sang the role of the Queen of the Night in Mozart's "The Magic Flute." Her performance was a sensation, and she quickly became a favorite of audiences and critics alike. Over the next few years, Robin continued to perform at the Paris Opera and other major opera houses throughout Europe. She was known for her incredible range and agility, which allowed her to sing the most challenging coloratura roles with ease. One of Robin's most famous performances was in the role of Olympia in Jacques Offenbach's "The Tales of Hoffmann." Her rendition of the famous aria "Les oiseaux dans la charmille" (The birds in the arbor) was a highlight of the production and became one of her signature pieces. Robin's career continued to flourish throughout the 1940s and 1950s. She performed in numerous operas and concerts, both in Europe and the United States. She was particularly popular in the United States, where she made several appearances on television and radio. In 1953, Robin was awarded the Legion of Honor, one of France's highest honors, for her contributions to the arts. She continued to perform well into the 1960s, but her career began to slow down as she entered her 50s. Despite her declining health, Robin continued to perform sporadically throughout the 1970s. Her final performance was in 1979, at the age of 61. She passed away on December 10, 1960, in Paris, France. Mado Robin was one of the most talented coloratura sopranos of the 20th century. Her incredible range and agility allowed her to sing some of the most challenging roles in the operatic repertoire with ease. Her performances were always a delight to audiences and critics alike, and she will always be remembered as one of the greatest singers of her time.More....
