Role:ComposerBirth:1860Death:1930Period:RomanticGenre:VocalVocalEva Dell'Acqua was an Italian composer and singer who lived from 1856 to 1930. She was born in Monza, Italy, to a family of musicians. Her father, Luigi Dell'Acqua, was a composer and conductor, and her mother, Teresa Brambilla, was a soprano. Eva showed an early talent for music and began studying piano and singing at a young age. In 1875, Eva made her debut as a singer in Milan, performing in the opera "La traviata" by Giuseppe Verdi. She continued to perform as a soprano in Italy and other European countries for several years, but eventually turned her focus to composing. Eva's first major success as a composer came in 1885 with the premiere of her opera "Lorenza," which was based on a play by Victorien Sardou. The opera was well-received and helped establish Eva's reputation as a composer. She went on to compose several more operas, including "Gli amanti sposi" (1886), "La falena" (1891), and "La wally" (1892). In addition to her operas, Eva also composed songs and piano music. One of her most famous songs is "Villanelle," which was written in 1884 and became a popular piece for singers to perform. The song has been recorded by many famous singers, including Maria Callas and Renée Fleming. Eva's music was known for its lyrical melodies and romantic themes. She was influenced by the Italian opera tradition, as well as the French and German Romantic styles. Her music was often compared to that of other female composers of the time, such as Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn. Despite her success as a composer, Eva faced many challenges as a woman in the male-dominated world of classical music. She was often criticized for her gender and her music was sometimes dismissed as "feminine" or "sentimental." However, she continued to compose and perform throughout her life, and her music has since been recognized as an important contribution to the classical music canon. Eva Dell'Acqua died in 1930 in Milan, Italy. Her legacy as a composer and performer continues to inspire musicians and audiences around the world.More....
