Period:BaroqueModernGenre:ChamberChoralConcertoOrchestralVocalJohn Feeney was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a professional pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Feeney showed a natural talent for music, and he began playing the cello at the age of six. Feeney's parents recognized his potential and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking private lessons with renowned cellists in New York City, and by the age of 12, he had already won several local competitions. Feeney continued to excel in his studies, and he was accepted into the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division at the age of 14. He studied with cellist Joel Krosnick, who would become his mentor and guide throughout his career. Feeney's talent and dedication paid off, and he won several prestigious competitions, including the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians in 2001 and the Naumburg International Cello Competition in 2005. Feeney's career took off after his win at the Naumburg Competition. He began performing with major orchestras around the world, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He also performed at major music festivals, such as the Salzburg Festival and the BBC Proms. Feeney's performances were praised for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. He was known for his ability to bring out the nuances and subtleties of the music, and his performances were often described as "spellbinding" and "mesmerizing." In addition to his performances, Feeney was also a dedicated teacher. He taught at the Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute of Music, and he was known for his ability to inspire and motivate his students. Feeney's career was tragically cut short when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2010. Despite his illness, he continued to perform and teach, and he remained an inspiration to his colleagues and students. Feeney passed away on June 17, 2012, at the age of 27. His legacy lives on through his recordings and the many students he inspired and mentored throughout his career. He will always be remembered as one of the greatest cellists of his generation.More....
