Richard Pressley was born on May 15, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Pressley showed a natural talent for music, and he began playing the piano at the age of four. Pressley's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with renowned pianist and teacher, Maria João Pires, at the age of six. Under her guidance, Pressley developed a deep love and appreciation for classical music. As a teenager, Pressley continued to hone his skills as a pianist, and he began performing in local concerts and competitions. He won several awards and accolades, including first place in the New York State Piano Competition and the Young Artist Award from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts. After graduating from high school, Pressley attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist Emanuel Ax.
